Gift card/loyalty card numbering

In setting up a gift card/loyalty card program, what numbers should we assign the cards in order not to conflict with real products? For instance, product number 6 13008 71475 8 is the UPC code for Arizona Green Tea. If I were to accidentally created a gift card with this number, would it cause a problem? Is there a recommended numbering sequence? Specifically, is there a required number for the first digit? I would like to understand how Retailedge software handles this issue. Thanks,

This Gift Card numbering sequence and the identifiers used for actual inventory items (e.g. barcodes, item numbers, stock numbers) are independent of each other so you should not have a conflict. In addition, RetailEdge asks for the Gift Card number in different, controlled circumstances so it shouldn't confuse the two.
