    Training Database & Other Databases

    by dapr » Thu Nov 05, 2015 4:44 pm

We recently installed and are using Retail Edge Version 8.2. We have 3 workstations (Registers 1-3) and a backoffice server (Register 4). When getting into the Training Database, the software told me that I could only use the Training Database on Registers 1-3. I was working on the backoffice computer, Register 4. I don't recall the exact error message it gave me. I changed the Register ID from 4 to 1 in box where you switch to a different database (Tools/Settings/Server Connection). My questions are: (1) Why does the Training Database only let me use Registers 1-3? Is that something I need to change inside the database when I get in? (2) Does it matter if I am "Register 4" on the real database and "Register 1" on the training database?

The problem is you are switching over to a training database. The training (and demo database) are separate databases with their own data. Both those databases by default have 3 registers in them. Your real database has 4.

The training and demo databases will allow your new clerks, managers, etc. to work in RetailEdge without damaging your real data.

A typical process when setting this up in a business would be:

    1. In windows explorer navigate to the installation directory for RetailEdge (typically c:\program files (x86)\high meadow business solutions.

    2. Copy the files in the directory RetailEdge 8.2 without the Server subfolder to a new directory on your computer (I put mine on my desktop, but it does not really matter).

    3. Copy the RetailEdge.exe in this new folder and paste a shortcut where it is accessible.

    4. Rename the desktop shortcut something like RetailEdge Demo.

    5. Double click this shortcut to run the program. Select Server Connection from the Tools|Settings menu item and have this copy of RetailEdge point to the demo database by setting the DB_Name to RetailEdgeData_Demo.
