Is there a way to add multiple vendors, in order of preference for ordering to one product??

There are somethings we get from a few different places depending on the price each week or availability. This would help if I'm not the one doing the order that week, or if I'm out of town.

There is no way to associate an item with multiple vendors. However, their are a few features that you should be aware of that might help you with your problem.

1. RetailEdge has the concept of Prefered Vendor built into the program. Each item has a preferred vendor associated with it. Prefered Vendor is the vendor that will come up by default when adding an item to receiving or a PO. To change the preferred vendor you simply need to edit the item in the Inventory Manager. Changing the vendor when receiving an item will not change the preferred vendor but will only change it for that receiving session.

2. You can see the item's receiving history on the bottom section of the inventory manager when you select an item. This will show a clerk or someone who is not as familiar with the item, what vendors have been used in the past for a particular item. You can easily see from this list which vendors are more commonly used for ordering a particular item. You will also be able to see the cost that an item was received at if there is a price difference from vendor to vendor.

3. Each item has notes fields and custom user fields that can be used to store alternate vendors and vendor codes for a particular item.

4. Sometimes it is helpful to create a different item entirely when a similar item is ordered from multiple vendors. For instance if you are using UPC codes for an item's stock number or an item's cost information varies significantly or a manufacturers part number is different from vendor to vendor, then using an entirely different item can make reordering easier.
