It would be great if I didn't have to choose whether I was searching by Stock Number, Description, UPC1, UPC2, etc. It would make things much easier if the Find Item field automatically searched by Stock Number, Description, UPC1, UPC2, Alias, Item ID, MFG Part #, Vendor Part #, and the User fields.

We currently use QBPOS, but really are not happy with it. However, it does have a few nice, easy to use feathers. For instance, we don't have to choose what we are searching by. Just scan in an item, or type in a partial description, done. If it finds more than one item, it pulls up a list of items to choose from, just like RetailEdge.

Just realized the sales screen behaves as I describe, but other screens with a Find (F4) where the Find Item(s) screen pops up does not. It would be nice if that screen did behave the same way.

You don't have to select the lookup in the RetailEdge. RetailEdge will look up by a number of different fields. If it finds an exact match it will display or enter the item onto the sales screen. The find by is really used as a last ditch pattern match. Typically customers set this to description but we use the stock number here. It's up to you.

The way the Sales Screen works is as follows:

When entering an item in the Find Item box on the Sales Screen, RetailEdge will automatically search the inventory fields in the following order to find the item:

1. Item ID (RetailEdge price label barcode).
2. Stock Number.
3. Current Find By Criteria as listed in the Find By box.
4. List ID
5. UPC1
6. UPC2
7. Alias ID
8. Package ID

If an exact match is found in any of the above listed fields, then RetailEdge will stop the search and add the item to the Sales Screen. If an exact match is not found, RetailEdge will go to the Find By criteria listed in Find By box and perform a partial match search. Partial searches look for text matches from the beginning of the inventory field. If the Interior Pattern Match checkbox on the Find Item(s) screen is checked then RetailEdge will search for the Look For text in any part of the inventory field.


This means you have the flexibility to lookup or enter items into the Sales Screen by scanning or entering any of the criteria above.

The sales screen is kind of a hybrid. The other screens that use the F4 or Find button (typically Managers), perform the search on these screens, the F4 defaults to the column you are on. So if you are in the last name column, it will pop up with Last Name selected. Once you select one of the items or customers in the list, the list will resort, by the selected criteria. It is pretty slick, but let us know if it does not work for you.

Thanks for the reply Bill. I see more how it was intended. I'll have to play with it more.

I would like to see CTRL+F added as a hotkey for find, as that's a typical hotkey for find in most Windows applications. But that's just a little nitpicky thing.

It was pretty late last night when I decided to start posting things I'd like to see polished, added, or changed after working with the Demo for some time now.
