    Gift Card Discount Option

    by OtterMgr1 » Wed Jan 23, 2008 1:14 pm

Can we issue gift cards for a specific discount amount instead of for a dollar amount? For example, we want to partner with a local company and give them several gift cards, each worth 10% off all purchases. They can give these cards to their customers to use at our store. Is this possible?

There are several approaches to this but here's one suggestion that might work for you:

Instead of treating the cards as gift cards, how about treating them as customer cards. Create a "customer" for for your partner store and set up the customer to have a 10% discount. You could print the customer's Cust_ID onto the card (either as a number, barcode, or as a magnetic strip).

At the time of sale, scan the customer card into the sale (using the Cust_ID printed on the card). As items are added to the sales screen, they will be brought in with the 10 percent discount associated with the customer.

This approach allows you to track the use of the cards via sales reports. It also allows you to create different cards for different partner stores.

    Hope this helps.
