    RetailEdge For Manufacturing

by RetailEdge Moderator » Wed Jan 23, 2008 2:38 pm

RetailEdge is designed for more traditional retail operation and manufacturing is a different animal. For instance if a business purchases Item A, B and C to make an Item D and then sells item D, this isn't something that RetailEdge is designed to handle if it is a major part of their business. And this can be tricky. Say someone is making a jacket from Fabric A and B, there is going to be waste as a part of that manufacturing process and a program needs to take this into account. Needless to say businesses pay tens to hundred of thousands of dollars for these types systems. RetailEdge is $450.

There are customers who are manufacturing things (fragrances, etc.) but know these limitations, deal with the bulk item in the back end accounting program, then only take the finished product into RetailEdge. So they might create an accounting invoice for the bulk drums of product and only put the finished fragrances into RetailEdge. RetailEdge would also handle the "receiving", printing of tags and inventory management for the finished product. Businesses using it this way and basically creating POs for the store from "manufacturing".

This can work well. But you should
