RetailEdge uses the Price 1 for the selling price on a label. She should check the Price1 field and make sure it has some value other than $0.00. This has led to some confusion in the past. The way the RetailEdge pricing levels work is as follows
Suggested Retail - The suggested retail selling price for the item.
Price 1 - The actual selling price of the item
Price 2 - Additional selling price of the item
Price 3 - Additional selling price of the item
Price 4 - Additional selling price of the item
Price 5 - Additional selling price of the item
When you enter an item on the sales screen, Price 1 is the price displayed. If there is a Suggested Retail that differs from the Price 1, then RetailEdge will automatically show that the item has been discounted. This discount will be reflected on the customer's receipt. The difference between Suggested Retail and Price 1 can also be used on certain labels when a customer wants to show an Their Price/Our Price or Was/Is pricing on a label. Their Price/Was is the Suggested Retail and the Our Price/Is is the Price 1.
Price 2-5 are typically used for setting discounts. Customers can be assigned either a percentage discount or a Price Level discount. Percentages work in most cases. For instance you might want to give your good/loyal customers a standard 30% discount. If you do, any time the customer is added to the sales screen, then the items added to the sales screen are discounted by this percentage. There are times when a standard percentage does not work. For instance if you are selling some items with a 25% margin, then you don't want to extend a 30% discount to the customer because you would then be losing money.
The customer discount is only applied to items added after the customer is added to the sales screen. So this allows users to add items to the sales screen that they don't want the customer to get discounts on first, then add the customer to the sale to get the discount applied to only certain items. This can sometimes be useful if there are certain items that already have a discounted price and you don't want the additional discount applied. This is another reason to use Price Levels because it can prevent the double discounting scenario from happening. A little more work on the inventory management side, but then it can minimize clerk mistakes.
Percentage discounts, Coupon Discounts, and Package Discounts can be also applied to a sale without a customer by pressing the discount button (F6) on the Sales Screen. Price Level Discounts can be applied by pressing Ctrl-Alt and the number corresponding to the price level you want applied on the Sales Screen.
