Many Gift Card companies will ask what the specification is for the gift cards in RetailEdge.

Gift cards do not require any particular numbering system and you can create any numbering system you want. For instance, you can have your barcodes start at 1 billion and go up from their or even be alpha numeric (i.e., G1023AD) The way it would work if you purchased your gift cards from someone is that they would ask you if there are any specifications you need to meet for RetailEdge. Somethings you might need to know are:

1. RetailEdge can work with any barcode symbology (this really depends on the scanner you are using and most scanners nowadays can handle most symbologies right out of the box)
2. RetailEdge does not need the barcode or magnetic stripe information to be in any format. Some systems require that the gift cards start or end with specific set of characters.
3. RetailEdge can read any track. This is really up to your magnetic strip reader. The reader needs to be able to read the track that the gift card information is on. We typically sell magstrip readers that read all 3 tracks so that there is not an issue.

The gift card manufacturer typically will track all of the information for you on your order. So when you order the first say 500 cards starting at 1,000,000, they know that the next batch you purchase will have to start on 1,000,500.
