Sort or report by margin?

Is there a way to either sort items by margin, or report items with a margin of x? Our store has about 20,000 items, and our cost changes frequently. I need to be able to see any items that are being sold with a margin under x%, or at the very least, see all of my items, sorted by margin %. I can't find a report that shows it, and I can't see a way to show margin in the inventory manager.

There is no report that allows you to sort inventory by margin % and there is not a way to show a list of margin percents in the inventory manager. We do however show margin on an item by item basis in the inventory editor and as you have seen on the inventory editor. Probably your best bet is to either export the report as an Excel file and then sort the margins. Any report can be exported when viewing it by pressing the Export button on the Report Viewer Screen.

The margin calculated on reports is based on the average cost and the retail1 price and will only be shown for items in stock (because you can't divide by 0 and margin is defined as 1-Total Cost/Total Retail. If you want to do some more detailed margin calculations based on one of the other 4 price fields or last cost, then I would recommend that you simply export the inventory from the Tools Export menu item as a CSV file and then bring this into Excel for manipulating.

Which report shows margin? I've looked through most of the obvious one, and I can't seem to find one that shows margin.

Open the Report Selector and choose Reports|Inventory|Items|Items| Item Detail - Grouped by Location. This has margin in it.
