I have a quick question about interac integration with retail edge. Our Debit service is provided by global how do I go about integrating it into retail edge..

Also as a request or a feature could you possible make it easier for importing inventory items from CSV. The REDI system is a pain. It also seems that Excel 2007 strips all quotes from csv and retail edge just has a fuss about it.

I'm not sure I understand your question. Incorporating Canadian debit is a fairly large hurdle and would require about 8 weeks and $10,000 to do. It requires a full certification process and on-site testing with specific machines by Global. We have not had many customers request this feature and so have not incorporated it into the program yet. We don't have any immediate plans to do so unless a large customer requests and funds the project.

The suggestion to make the import easier has already been made. The REDI file is really a hybrid system and is designed for transferring data from disconnected versions of RetailEdge as the name implies (RetailEdge Date Interchange). The stripping of quotes is something that Excel is doing that does not meet standard CSV specifications and we would consider it a bug in Excel. RetailEdge has to anticipate that we will be receiving data from many different sources and so have to be fairly stringent with our formatting. The quotes are required, because that is the only way that RetailEdge will know where the field starts and ends. For instance if I have an item with a description field that looks like: 15" platform shoes, black the structure of the CSV needs to have the quotes on it otherwise any program is not going to know where the field starts and stops.

Sorry the interac is a debit system in Canada..

Any who, can I use Open Office to create the csv (Openoffice calc). It uses quotes on everything. Is there another application that may be better in creating the CSV. I understand the REDI system I wasn't aware of the Excel "feature" err bug.
