    Restoring backup from previous version

    by fwhorch » Thu Apr 16, 2009 11:21 am

We have a backup from version 8.0.x that we'd like to restore to a version 8.1 client.

How do we do this? When we try to restore, we get a message that the version is different and then the restore fails.

Also, we cannot seem to install an 8.0.x version -- we lost our original demo and we can only find demo files for 7.5 and 8.1. (There is an 8.0 file on the FTP server but it installs an 8.1 client.)

What we're trying to do is evaluate the 8.1 release on a test machine before upgrading our production 8.0 systems.

We're currently running 8.0.19 on our production systems and making backups, but we're getting worried that these backups aren't doing us any good because we can't recreate a functional 8.0.19 system on our test machine.

Thanks for any help you can provide,
    Fred

    Hi Fred,

As you have discovered, you can't Restore a backup from earlier version of RetailEdge where a structure change has occurred between the versions, i.e. 8.0 to 8.1. Instead you must Restore the backup into a copy
of 8.0.x and then run the 8.1.1 Update on it. There is now posted in the ftp.highmeadow.com/pub/support folder a file called RE8_0_setup.exe which is an Install file for 8.0.x. Save it to the Target computer, execute it, which should install a copy of RE 8.0 on the computer, Restore in the 8.0 Backup, and then Update to 8.1.1 via the free Update available on our website.
