Sales Tax, Saved Sales and Multiple Locations

    by patrickmanfred » Wed Jul 01, 2009 2:39 pm

If we save a sale at location A which has sales tax rate of 5%

Then the sale gets picked up and finished at location B which has sales tax rate of 5.5%

Will RE automatically change the tax rate on the sale, or do we need to do this manually?

    thanks

Sales tax is only collected when you sell something and the sales tax is associated with the location you are selling out of. So in your case the customer would be charged 5.5%. The exceptions would be:

if you check "ship this sale" on the Sales Screen, then the Sales Tax collected is the sales tax associated with the customer. Most times this will be zero because most customers don't have a sales tax jurisdiction associated with them. However, some States (CA) have sales tax requirements that you pick up the Sales Tax of the juridiction you are shipping into. So associating a sales tax with a customer can be helpful if you are doing a lot of shipping to this customer.

If the customer has a tax excempt ID. Then sales tax will be removed from the sale.

If you manually edit the sales tax for this sale. This can be easily done on the Sales Screen at anytime.

    Hope this helps.
