Hello,

We do repairs on paintball guns and it would be great to implement a way to create work orders so updates could be typed in when something is done to a customer's item that is being repaired/upgraded. Each time we worked on it, we could enter the date and a notes field saying what was done and a price field to show how much that work was. Then when the customer came to pick up the item you could print this work order off or transfer it to the sales screen to add to their other items they may be purchasing.

I know I could use saved sales but that would be clogged up quickly since we have at least 20 repairs at any given time. Also, at times it may just need to be notes that need to be filled in and not specific prices. Examples would be like making a note when we tried calling the customer for pickup, etc.

I have heard Quickbooks POS has this feature but I have not used it, but this would be great for companies that do alterations, repairs, maintenance, garages, etc.

You could use Saved Sales as you mentioned, but really the RetailEdge Open Orders is was intended to be used for Work Orders. The Open Order differs from the Saved Sales in that it allows you to take a deposit on the order.

That being said, both the Open Order mechanism and the Saved Sales allows you to have line item notes added to the sale. These notes are a memo field and so can be as long and as detailed as you want. Many people use saved sales, many use the open orders. It is up to you.

Also you can keep as many Saved Sales in the file as you want and it should not clog things up. We actually use this mechanism for all our customer quotes and we have hundreds. You know that you can also access the Saved Sales for a particular customer from the Customer Manager as well. So it should be fairly easy to find the information when you need it or a customer calls.

Another thing you might consider using is the customer activity history. This can be very helpful to keep the kind of notes you are trying to keep "Called customer about order" with out having it show up on the receipt.
