I see there is an option with the discount rules feature to require and create a coupon code, and I see on the sales screen a place to scan a coupon, but how would one generate the barcode for that new coupon code, to scan in the sales screen? Am I missing something?

Actually we took it one step further. You should be able to scan the coupon code right into the sales screen just like any other item.

We have not done anything with generating barcodes and left this up to the user. You can use the barcode already generated and many times included on manufacturer's coupons. There are many utilities available freely on the internet that will allow you to generate a barcode so you can use it for submitting to print ads. And there are coupon programs out there that will allow you to generate coupons that can be downloaded to smartphones. So we did not feel that we needed to add this into the program. If you are thinking about going to smartphone couponing, you are going to probably need to get a different scanner that will allow you to scan these barcodes. The typically laser scanners can't do it.

So do I understand correctly that you are saying generate or get the coupon barcode before creating the coupon discount rule, then scan that code into the coupon code field in the discount rule screen when creating the rule?
