I know this has been covered before, but with all the changes I wanted to know if and how to create coupons.
I have several discontinued items, I want to put a coupon on the box/package for $XX off this item which would be scanned at the counter when a customer makes a purchase.
example a boot is priced at $149.99 there would be a coupon or a label attached to the box for $25.00 off this item.
Clerk would scan the boot at 149.99 plus tax, and then scan the coupon which would be for a negative $25.00 or as a amount tendered in the sales screen.
Looking at the discount rules it seems they are for specific items or customers and for a specific time. The coupon would not expire, and could be used on multiple pairs of boots from multiple vendors. Can this be done and if so how?

You have a few ways of doing this in RetailEdge.

First if you can setup a discount rule to be applied to an item or items. Set the expiration date to some day way out in the future so it never expires. The discount rule would be a $ off inventory rule (in your case $25). Then assign a coupon code to the discount rule that matches the barcode of the coupon. Make sure the rule has "Coupon Required" checked. Then when you scan the barcode of the coupon, the discount will be applied. You might want to change your discount settings for your receipt to be $ vs. % discount. This will make it clearer to the customer what is going on.

Second you can create a package discount that has the item with a negative "coupon" item assigned to it. That way you can have a negative coupon assigned to a sale whenever that package id (coupon code in your case) is scanned.
