    payment methods with Genius

    by wildman » Thu Jun 19, 2014 11:07 am

We are going to switch to the Genius, our current system we have MC/Visa, Discover, American Express & Debit all as separate payment options, when we switch should we continue this way or change the payment options?

Good question. The flow of the payment process is a little different with the Genius and other external devices that we use for our out of scope solutions.

Currently it would work like this.

    1. You have your payment methods setup in RetailEdge.
    2. The customer hands you their card and you select the payment method based on the credit card the customer has handed you.
    3. You process the sale.

The problem with the separate device is that the customer never hands you their card and so you don't know which payment method to select in RetailEdge. You could always ask, but then that can slower as the customer tries to decide which card to use and it is a little awkward to ask. So the way to best handle that with the Genius is to:

    1. Have the payment methods setup in RetailEdge as you normally would.
    2. Make sure that the payment methods that are setup to process using the Genius are setup with the correct CC type.
    3. Move the card type you accept most of the time to the top of the Payment Method Order list (or Cash then the Payment Media).

Then instruct your clerks to always use this top payment method when processing a sale. What will happen is that most of the time it will just be approved and go to the correct payment method. However when the payment method does not match the CC Type used, then RetailEdge will tell the clerk and ask if you want to apply it to the correct payment method.

Pretty simple but if you have questions let us know.
