    Genius System Improvements

    by wildman » Tue Jul 15, 2014 11:20 am

After using our Genius system, we have a list of improvements we wish could be implemented.
    1. At the payment screen we choose the payment method, and then the genius screen pops up and we have to take the mouse and select Swiped Card Present. This in the default, but we cannot just hit enter to select it.

    2. If a card can not be scanned (The magnetic stripe is unreadable) There is not a option to enter the card manually as a card present. We have to select Enter manually card not present. This is a higher cost to us.

    3. Signature Capture! The machine should capture the signature and print it on the receipt! It does capture the signature according to Merchant Warehouse, however since it doesn't save and print it on the charge receipt that we keep we have to ask the customer to sign our copy. Signing twice irritates some customers.

    4. Since the card cannot be swiped before we select the card present we have to keep the terminal turned away from the customer. Many places the customer can swipe their card at any time, this caused confusion.

    5. Debit or Credit, The buttons are so small on the screen customers don't notice them, and just swipe the card which runs it as credit. The buttons should be larger, and it should be mandatory that they choose before swiping the card.

    6. Items on the screen, most stores with similar terminals, see the items on the terminal screen as they are being rung up, this would be a nice feature to add.

On a positive side, the system does seem to function quickly. Many times it is ready to print the receipt on the Retail Edge screen before the customer has put the signing pen down.

Some of these questions we don't have control over since the Genius device is Merchant Warehouse's device. However I will answer what I can and I have asked Merchant Warehouse to respond to the comments that are in their control.

    1. You should be able to just push enter and have it start the process. You might want to have technical support take a look at what is going on in your system.

    2. From what I know, if a card does not swipe because of the magnetic strip reader, according to PCI regulations you should be asking for another card. But MW should get back to me on this and I can post up a more definitive answer.

    3. RetailEdge will capture the signature. However, we don't print it on the customer's receipt. We do have it available to print on the credit card receipt. You should be able to at any time reprint this credit card receipt if there is a problem and see the signature. If you don't you might want to check with technical support about your receipt printer settings or see if there is some other issue going on. RetailEdge will only print the signature using Tape Style Via Windows Printer Driver.

    4. The Swipe Now option is something that on the Merchant Warehouse roadmap. I don't know the details or timing but will let you know if I find something out.

    5. Again out of our control but maybe Merchant Warehouse will have an answer.

    6. That is actually a feature that they support. I think that would be a good one and it is already in our list of suggestions.

Thanks and we will let you know what we hear from Merchant Warehouse on the other issues.

    This from Merchant Warehouse

    2. Your account is set up to be a card present environment. According to PCI compliance if you cannot swipe the card thought he terminal you should ask for a different form of tender.

    5. The size of the buttons cannot be changed on this time but when we certify to the MX925 this may be an option. The card does not automatically run as credit we have proprietary technology known as Bin Smart that applies the best rate to the merchant automatically making the distinction to run it as debit or credit.

We will get you more information about the procedure for the Bin Smart function shortly so that you can ensure you get the best rates. Also, as you probably know if you are processing hand keyed transactions (via phone orders since you want to get another form of payment if a card fails as described above), the key piece of information you want to get from the customer is the Street Address and ZIP. This will reduce your rate and RetailEdge will display on the bottom of the screen whether the AVS (Address Verification System) has verified the information you entered. At this time you can either void the sale and get the correct information or just accept it. The CVV value is just another piece of information contained on the card and will help with fraud prevention but it does not do anything for your rate.

    Stay tuned for more.
