Fixed amount off of total sale

Hello
I printed out several 100 $5 off and $10 off coupons to hand out.
At the POS I would like my people to be able to reduce the sale by a fixed amount, $5 or $10.
They will be writing the ticket number on the back and we will be logging it into their loyalty notes.
I can't seem to find a way to discount the sale a fixed amount. I have tried to create an item with negative price but that wouldn't work. I also tried to create a rule with a negative rule and that didn't seem to work either. I want them to discount the complete sale be an amount, not a percentage. Let me know if there is a way to make this work.

Glad you figured it out. The discount rules are pretty powerful and if you wanted to get tricky with it, you could setup a rule and require a coupon with the amount off and have a barcode on the coupon so that scanning of the coupon would activate the rule. You could also set an expiration date so that the rule would/could not be activated after a certain date.

How would I create the bar code? I didn't see a print option for a bar code. That would make it easier then having to go into coupon.

Good question. There is not really an option to print a barcode coupon out of RetailEdge. Most people do this separately and submit it with the print or on-line ad. Then the user needs to print it out and bring it in order to get the credit for it.

There are lots of programs out there on the internet that will generate barcodes or if you are creating your coupon in Word or Pages, then you can just cut and paste it into the document.

Another work around would be to create a package (e.g., C12345) and then print a package barcode. Then delete the package and create the coupon code with the same value.
