We have created a matrix with 36 element values in Dimension 1 and 14 element values in Dimension 2. When entering items from the Parent and utilizing the matrix only the Element Value listed on Line 1 shows as an option. All element values from Dimension 2 are available. This JUST happened TODAY. We have been utilizing this matrix for several years without a problem. Is there a means to correct this issue? Is this a common problem? We have multiple matrices which we utilize consistently and none present the same issue. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

With the recent RetailEdge updates we have made some changes to the way matrix items can be viewed. In order to get you the solution can you please send a screen shot of what you are seeing to [email protected]. Once we have that I think we should be able to solve this mystery.

This is the first shot. We sell bicycles and inventory them by frame size (dimension 1) and color (dimension 2)Dimension 1 shows all the different size frames (ie 13", 15", 16.5, 17" etc).

This second screen shot is from clicking the receiving icon to add inventory, we find the bike model we want to put in to inventory/receiving then go to the second tab for quantity and the only frame size we get is 13" but the color's are there.

Are matrix definition is for bicycles which is the first screen shot. Not sure what's happening and why it's loosing the other frame sizes but hopefully you guys can help us figure the issue out. Thanks for your time. Need anything else just let us know.

The issue you are seeing is caused by a change that was made to the grids that display the different matrix children and the addition of the Matrix Report View. The new grid (yes it does look the same) does not like having a Quote (") character in first row of the matrix definition. There are also other characters that it does not like (|) but you probably won't be using these. This is just a visual issue with the grid and report views and should not affect your data.

You have a couple of options until a fix can be implemented.

1. You can just use the children items and receive these like you normally would. This would bypass the utility of the matrix parent that allows you to create new items quickly for matrixed items and to view quantities for children items. But if the items already exist then you can receive the children as you normally would.

2. Or you can create a stub matrix Element Value item that does not have a quote in the name in the in the list that has the quoted items. So in your example, go to the bottom of the Size Dimension 1, add an Element called TEMP or BAD or whatever makes sense to you. Then use the up arrow to move this Element Value to the top of the list. This will allow you to view your matrix grids and lists properly.

BTW don't edit the first definition to get rid of the quotes. This will break the children that match this definition. They can be re-associated the matrix definition but it is better to do it the way I proposed above. You can easily just delete the BAD, TEMP Element later.

Hopefully this will work for you until the fix has implemented. But let us know if there is anything more we can help you with in the interim.
