Making changes to a completed sale

    by glowfish » Mon Oct 05, 2015 9:50 pm

    Hello
We were doing a gift basket and did a sale of an item at 100% off. Instead of putting 1 item though my employee put 100 of the item. I just figured it out since our sales for that day were -$1000+.
I updated the inventory but I would like to know if there is a way to go back in and change this sale? It is affecting my reports when I pull them for the month.
    Thanks
    Vanessa

Once a sale has been posted (Closed) you can't void it. This is mainly because after a close, you have reports that have been run and potentially exports to accounting that would then be incorrect.

So if you need to make an adjustment after the fact you can just do a return on the following day for the items that were incorrectly sold or discounted. Then sell the items correctly.

If you have moved over to a new month which sometimes happens, you can back-date a sale by pressing ctrl-alt-d (date) on the sales screen when making the sale(s). If you are going to do this, you should start a separate register session for that day to keep this transaction separate unless you want it going into the day's batch. Remember the closing summary information and the actual sale are kept separately and are reported separately.

Another way to do it is to simply set your clock back on your computer and then ring in the sale(s). This can have some consequences if you are running in a multi-location business or on an Island mobile computer. Again to keep the record straight you should open and close a register session before doing these transactions. Also remember to set your clock back after the transaction has been completed. Many people have forgotten to reset the clock and then rang in additional sales with the wrong date. And this can only be fixed by us and then you would be into some heavy technical support time.
