What is the exact model of the metrologic optimus unit you are selling?
Also, is there any new updates, programs or optimizer for that unit? Or any other software need to download to work properly with retail edge? Everything I could find on the forums was from a few years ago. And do you recommend any other PDT's that work with the retail edge program. Not sure if this unit is outdated or not!

Brad,

Good call. The device that we are selling to replace the Optimus is the Cipherlab 8000 Mobile Computer Kit.

This comes with the software to move the data from the device to your computer and where you can import it into your PICs list.

If you want to get a feel for how this would work without purchasing a device and you have an iPhone you can download our PICs app from the App Store. This will allow you to scan a barcode with the iPhone's (or iPad's) camera. You then e-mail the file to your computer and import this into your RetailEdge PICS list. Then you can see how the process will work.

Then you can make a determination about how you want to go about doing your physical inventory collection. The Cipherlab 8000 works well and is a rugged device. But we also have a number of boutique customers, who have employees that all have iPhones. They just send them all out with their iPhones and they scan the items. You can even get bluetooth scanners to work with the iPhones, but then you are paying almost as much as you would for an 8000.

Thanks for getting back to me. I think having the PDT will be more beneficial for my business than the Iphone! I have over 10k sku's. Can you explain what I need to do to get the Cipher 8000 up and running with the retail edge program? Downloads/updates/setup, ect. I just want to have all the info on setting it up when I receive the unit. Or is it possible for you to have it all setup and ready to go when I purchase it? "I made a new topic about this question"
