RetailEdge has been able to store credit cards on file for a number of years. And although we were PA-DSS certified to store this information in a secure manner, having this data on your computer could pose a risk.
You should always consider not storing this information if you don't need it. RetailEdge does have an option on the Security tab of your location setting, to prevent storing of this information with the customer.
However, we understand that being able to re-charge a customer's credit card when they authorize it is a valuable feature. And with RetailEdge's recurring billing feature you need to may need to have this information available (if you are not using house charges).
So with our new credit card integrations with our processing partners Cayan and Vantiv we can simulate card on file but not actually store any sensitive on the computer. This is done with recurring tokens. With these tokens, we can check with their servers and bill/refund cards that were used for previous transactions. And you also get the added advantage that this can be done for multiple cards used. More features, more secure.
In order to take advantage of this feature, you will need to have a customer associated with a sale. When you are asked how you want to process the card, select Reuse Customer's Last Card. You will then be presented with a list of Card(s) to choose from. One thing to consider when doing this option. This is a convenience, but you will be getting card not present rates when using these cards on file. So if you have a high dollar transaction, you might want to consider charging the customer when the come in to pick up the item(s).
