A RetailEdge Island is RetailEdge's mobile POS solution.  An Island workstation allows you to run your business (full program functionality) remotely.  The Island works from a local copy of your store's data and automatically synchronizes this data with a master database on a regular timed interval.  

 

RetailEdge Island allows you to:

 

1.See what's happening in your business(es) real-time (typically synchronizing every two minutes).

 

2.Make changes to your business's information when you are disconnected from the internet. When you get re-connected, the newest changes get moved between your Island and your business.

 

3.Ring in sales and perform mission critical operations fast. Since you are working on a local copy of your data you are never limited by a slow internet connection.

 

4.Increase workstation reliability when you are using a mobile workstation on-site that does not have a good network (LAN) connection, or you want data redundancy if your LAN or server machine goes down.  This can be especially important for stores with multi-lane high volume sales.

 

5.Provide automatic backups to a secondary machine.  Since an Island is working from a localized synched copy, as long as you are synching, you are backed up.

 

You can keep this master database on your computer in your store or home office, or you can have us host the master database on our cloud servers.

 

If you are using your own computer for the master database you will need to setup a VPN to connect your Island to the computer with the master database.  You do not need a VPN if you are using our cloud servers.
