Receiving Items

The Receiving List is a temporary holding area for items before you add them to your inventory.  To receive/add items into your inventory through the receiving mechanism:

1.Press the Receiving button on the Toolbar

2.Press the Add button on the Receiving List.  This will display the Edit Receiving screen where you can fill in the information required to create an item.

3.To add an existing item you can either press the Find button (F4), and search for the item or you can simply type in the Stock Number or Item ID of the item being received.  RetailEdge will automatically search for the item in the inventory and display the item information.  If you want to disable this feature you can uncheck the Quick Lookups? checkbox.

4.Receiving requires that you fill in a few additional fields than if you are creating an item in inventory. These fields are:

•Label Count. This field is located on the Location tab and is the quantity of tags you want to print for the items in receiving.  The tag count field defaults to the value of the quantity field.  However, you may want to set this to another value (1) if for instance you are receiving 5,000 feet of rope.

•Into Location. In a multi-location business you can specify where the items will be received into.  The quantities shown on the Quantity tab are the quantities for the locations where the inventory will ultimately be transferred to.

•Vendor (Received). This vendor may be different than the Preferred Vendor.  In some cases, the preferred vendor may not have the items needed and a different vendor needs to be used.  The Vendor (Received) will record the vendor used for this particular set of receiving.  The Vendor (Received) will be shown on reports when looking at receiving history.

•Preferred Vendor. This vendor will be associated with the item when it is added to the inventory.  Future receiving processes will use this vendor, unless the Vendor (Received) is changed.

5.Press the Save button on the Edit Receiving screen.

6.Keep adding the items you are receiving to the Receiving List.

7.Once you have added all of the items to the Receiving List that you are receiving, you are then ready to print labels for the items in the Receiving List. Following that, you will use the Update Inv button to add (Update) the items to your inventory.
