The filter settings allow you to apply the rules to different inventory items or customers.  So if you are creating a Customer Discount Rule for local customers, you might create a Filter for all customers from local Cities in your area or from specific Postal Codes.  Since the Complete Sale discounts are not based on a particular file like inventory or customer, the Set Filter tab is not available for this type of Discount. Filters are required for Inventory and Customer type discounts.

 

If you change a discount rule filter, RetailEdge will re-apply this filter by launching the "Apply/Purge Rules (Batch)" wizard.   The "Apply/Purge Rules (Batch)" utility will be executed in two steps. It will remove the "old" discount rules from ALL applicable inventory items and then reapply the new filter criteria to the appropriate items.
