Setting Up Security

RetailEdge can have security turned on to prevent access to any RetailEdge function.  Each Clerk can be assigned an Access Level.  Each RetailEdge function has an Action Level. Clerks will not be allowed access to any RetailEdge function that has an Action Level higher than the Clerk's Access Level. RetailEdge can have up to 99 security levels.

Once security is turned on, if you are in Clerk Based Security mode RetailEdge will ask for a Clerk ID and Password for every action that has an Action Level of greater than 0.   If you are in Workstation Based Security mode, RetailEdge will only ask you for a Clerk ID and Password if:

1.Your existing login needs to be elevated to perform the desired action.

2.Your timeout value has been exceeded (see Setting Up Workstations General Info tab).

3.You have logged out of your workstation by pressing the Logout menu item.

To set up security, you should perform the following:

Assign Clerk Passwords and Access Levels

1.Edit the Clerk List by choosing Clerk List from the Tools menu.

2.Press the Modify or Add button to Edit or Add a clerk.

3.Either assign a password to the clerk or have them type in a password (passwords will be masked with *****).

4.Press the Security tab and type in an Access Level for the Clerk and check the location(s) for which they should have access to RetailEdge functions.

5.Fill in any other required data and press the Save button.

Edit the Security Action List

1.Choose Settings|Locations from the Tools menu.

2.Select a location and press the Modify button.

3.Press the Security tab.

4.Press the Action List button on the Security tab.

5.Edit the Level for every RetailEdge function.  RetailEdge is set up with a number of user level defaults (0,20,40,60,80).

6.DOUBLE CHECK the default user levels to ensure that they are correct.  User levels can be set anywhere from 0 to 99 in increments of one.  The user levels are broken into groups (register, inventory, customer, reports, and tools).  You can change the viewed group by clicking on the Group drop down box and choosing the desired group.

7.Once you have edited the Action List, press the Ok button to save your changes.

8.Check the Turn Security On checkbox.

9.Press the Ok button.  RetailEdge will ask you to provide your Clerk ID and Password.

Hint: Setting an action level of 0 on sales functions can speed up point of sale operations.
