RetailEdge allows you the ability to access your businesses information from a remote location (i.e., home, trade shows, web stores, etc.). Listed below are some things that you will need to know if you are setting up RetailEdge Data to be accessed remotely.
Firewall Settings. On the Border Firewall/Router you should open the following Ports and forward them to the RetailEdge Data Server machine. The Internal IP of the Data Server be a fixed IP. If you have a software firewall these ports should also be opened in the software firewall as well.
Required:
12005 RetailEdge Server (Data)
12006 RetailEdge Server (Control)
Optional (Used for transferring backup files to client workstations):
12007 RetailEdge Server (Xfer Control)
12008 RetailEdge Server (Xfer Data)
Anti Virus Settings. The Anti Virus settings should allow access from these ports as well and/or the RetailEdge program executable.
Database Server Settings. You will need to setup RetailEdge Database to allow access from your remote location. For security reasons you should limit access to your databases from only specific IP addresses. For this reason you may want to have a fixed IP address for you remote location.
| 1. | From the Server folder on the machine where the RetailEdge Dataserver is running, run the RetailEdge_Status program. |
| 2. | Choose Authorized IPs option from the Tools|Administration menu item. |
| 3. | Press the Add button and type in the IP Address of the remote location. |
| 4. | Check to see that you can connect to the database from the remote location by running the RetailEdge_Status program from the remote machine and see if you can connect to the database from the remote location. |
Internet Connection. The location that contains the RetailEdge Dataserver should have a fixed IP address. If this is not possible, then virtual domains need to be setup. One site for this is serveftp.net
Remote Desktop (Remote Control Software). If you are going to be accessing RetailEdge from a remote location and you don't have a reliable of very fast internet connection, you should consider accessing RetailEdge remote control software. Remote Desktop is included with some versions of Windows and is relatively easy to setup. If you are going to be using remote control software the firewall/router settings need to include the port that the remote control software is using (Remote Desktop Protocol default 3389).
Note: If you don't understand the information listed above we strongly recommend getting a local IT or computer dealer to help you with this setup. This can usually be done quickly and inexpensively by someone who knows what they are doing.
