Using a Credit Card Terminal

To use a separate credit card terminal with RetailEdge when processing credit cards:

 

1.Purchase a credit card terminal from your merchant service provider.  

 

2.Setup your payment mediums to include the accepted credit cards.

 

3.When you process a sale using a credit card, create the sale in RetailEdge and display the Payment tab

 

4.Swipe the customer's card through the credit card terminal.

 

5.Receive the credit card approval from the terminal

 

6.In RetailEdge move the cursor to the appropriate payment method and press the + key (for exact change).  The plus key is found on the right hand side of the numeric keypad.

 

7.Print a RetailEdge receipt.

 

8.Have the customer sign the credit card terminal receipt.

 

9.Take the RetailEdge receipt and attach it to the credit card customer receipt and give it to the customer.

 

At the end of the night you will batch out the credit card terminal and run a closing report in RetailEdge.  The

 

Advantages

 

Will continue to process credit cards if your computer goes down.  Many users who are using the integrated credit card processing methods will have their processor provide them with a terminal that they can use as a backup in the event that their computer or internet connection does go down.  Recently however is becoming less of an issue.  Our integrated processing partners all have mobile apps that will allow you to process separately using a mobile device (smart phone) and a wireless 3G connection.  You can also tether your computer to a mobile device or get a wireless card for your computer.  This will allow you to continue to process when the internet connection is down and still have the convenience of integrated credit card processing.
