Installing the RetailEdge Client on a Network

To install  RetailEdge on secondary workstations in a network installation:

1.On the Server Machine add a new workstation to the database.

2.Have your network setup and confirm that the two computers are communicating with each other.  Make a note of the IP Address of the data computer.  We recommend that the IP of the data computer be fixed so that if the main computer is shutdown at night, it won't be reassigned a new IP address when it is restarted.

3.Run the installation file from the location where you saved it when you installed your primary workstation.

4.Follow the directions on the screen.  Choose the Client Workstation Only Installation Option.

5.Follow the directions on the installation wizard.  You will be asked to enter the following information:

a.The IP Address or URL of the computer where the Server/Data resides.  If you don't know the IP Address of the Server computer, choose Server Connection from the Tools|Settings menu item on the Server computer machine and press the LAN Info button.

b.The DB Name (typically RetailEdgeData).

c.The Register ID of the new workstation created above.

6.Once the installation is complete, you will see a Desktop icon for RetailEdge.  Run RetailEdge.

7.Check your inventory and customer files to make sure that you are viewing the main data.

If RetailEdge does not start, choose Server Connection from the Tools|Settings menu item.  Check the Location Password for the location you are connecting to.  This is RetailEdge8.2 by default.  If you are upgrading from an earlier version then the 8.2 may be substituted with the original version number.

You can also optimize the connection by choosing how often the grids data refreshes (every 5 or 15 seconds).  This can make for a better experience when using a Client workstation over a slower connection.
