Windows 8.1 End of Life is Coming

Like Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7, and 8, Microsoft is finally ending support for Windows 8.1.

According to Microsoft, Windows 8.1 will reach end of support on January 10, 2023. After that date, if you’re running Microsoft 365, you’ll no longer receive updates for the Office apps; this includes feature, security, and other quality updates. Please Note: Windows 8 went out of support on January 12, 2016 and no longer receives security updates as well.

This is important because running your business’s POS and Inventory Management on a dated operating system without security updates could increase the risk of viruses, hackers, and overall slowness. We strongly recommend thinking about migrating your systems to Windows 11.

Just like with Windows 7 and the rest of them, we will continue to support these systems for a period of time after Microsoft’s end of life date. However, RetailEdge Support will eventually no longer be able to support Windows 8 and 8.1 operating systems in the future.

If you need assistance in updating to Windows 11 or shopping for new computers, please reach out to our sales team. They will be happy to make some recommendations based on your specific business environment.
